Almost 100,000 music lovers crowded into Grant Park in Chicago, Ill. on Friday, August 6, for the first day of Lollapalooza 2010. Friday highlights included Peanut Butter Wolf, Hot Chip, Raphael Saadiq, DEVO, Kidz In The Hall, My Dear Disco, The Black Keys, and Chromeo. Festival attendees were faced with the decision of choosing between headliners Lady Gaga and The Strokes, who were both at opposite ends of the park.

My Dear Disco, whose 2010 appearance was their first ever at the festival, was humbled by the experience. Although they have done about 200 performances in the past two years, they explained that the Lollapalooza experience was something completely different. “It was amazing. It’s cool to feel like we are sitting at the same table, metaphorically speaking, as incredible influences of ours,” said guitarist Robert Lester. “Lollapalooza really organized a lot of musical taste-making culture. I don’t know that we think of ourselves as that right now, but it’s cool to feel like somebody thinks that we belong on the same stage as some of those people.”

This year, Lollapalooza takes over 115 acres, 35 more than the previous year. Tickets are $90 per day, or $215 for a three-day pass.
